How to Open Silent Chests in Diablo 4

To open a Silent Chest, you need a Whispering Key.

Without this key in your inventory, interacting with the chest will do Diablo 4 Items nothing. The game will simply inform you that the chest is locked. Once you have a Whispering Key, opening a Silent Chest is instant-just interact with it as you would any normal chest.

There's no class restriction, no level requirement, and no special condition beyond having the key itself.

Where to Get Whispering Keys

Whispering Keys are extremely easy to acquire and cost very little. You can purchase them from any Purveyor of Curiosities in Diablo 4.

Every major hub city has a Purveyor of Curiosities, including:

Kyovashad

Murmuring Obols are earned by completing:

Legion events
The Pit
The Undercity
Seasonal activities

Because Obols are so easy to farm, Whispering Keys are effectively disposable. This makes Silent Chests a low-risk way to gain extra loot without spending gold or relying on expensive upgrades appealing option compared to players who prefer to buy Diablo IV Items outright to speed up progression.

Best Practices: Always Carry Whispering Keys

Because Silent Chests are so rare, it's highly recommended to always keep one or two Whispering Keys in your inventory. They don't take up much space, they're cheap, and they save you from having to backtrack if you encounter a Silent Chest in an inconvenient location.

That said, even if you don't have a key on hand, Silent Chests don't despawn quickly. You can:
